Current Scenario

Mumbai city, especially its Suburbs, are undergoing rapid deterioration as far as the Quality of Life of its citizens is concerned. Pollution, Environmental degradation, rising piles of garbage, inadequate health facilities, rapid increase of encroachment and lack of adequate governmental machinery are contributing towards a grim future for the city of Mumbai.
 
As of Dec. 2004, Mumbai contributes 42% to the country's exchequer. 17% of money generated in Mumbai is from the Formal Sector whereas 83% is generated from the informal sector. 60-70% of Mumbai is covered with slums. These are mostly concentrated in the suburbs. Population distribution: South Mumbai: about 33 lakhs, Suburbs of Mumbai: about 86 lakhs.
